Ruritan Clubs must contain at least sixteen members. For administrative purposes Clubs (4 to 8) are grouped together in Zones. Zones ( 5 to 10) are grouped together as Districts. Large Districts are defined as having over a thousand members. Ruritan has over thirty five Districts with just under thirty thousand members nation wide! The Districts are located as far west as Colorado, north to New York, east to Virginia, and south to Florida!
Each Club is independent and elects its own Officers and manages its own finances and affairs. Generally the Board of Directors consists of a President, Vice, Treasurer, Secretary and three Directors. The Clubs hold a ninety minute meeting once a month that consists of equal parts meal, business session and program. The Board of Directors hold an additional meeting once a month. At the national level, a small administrative staff of paid employees provides continuity of training materials, supplies and coordination at our National Headquarters in Dublin, Virginia. All other members including National Office holders , District officer holders, district staff , Zone Governors, Club Officers and members are unpaid volunteers. National staff is paid from member dues.
Virtually one hundred percent of all funds raised and service hours provided are invested into the community the club serves. We are truly "non-profit". If you want to make a difference you can't do better than Ruritan. If you live in Unicoi, Washington or Greene county check out the Events page to meet some Ruritans. To attend a meeting as a guest, go to the Zones and Clubs page and contact a Zone Governor, Club President or Club Secretary near you. Email and Phone numbers are posted.
